Obviously, the larger the dredge is, the more sediment it will be able to work through in less time. Size is also directly related to efficiency, output, and cost. One of the main factors that will play into your decision on which dredge to buy is the size of the machine.
This is essentially the process that all gold dredges will use to separate the valuable, yellow metal from sand and other sediment. The flotation device simply keeps the rig above the water, making it easier than by using an underwater gold dredge. It transports these materials through the sluice box, and the sluice does its job of removing the sediment and leaving the gold, which sits behind the riffles. Once the apparatus is placed into the water, the suction hose will suck up gravel, water, gold, and any other sediments. There are pumps and jet flares that are powered by the engine as well. While vast improvements have been made to the design, the general process is roughly the same. Gold dredges have been around for over 150 years, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
